Injury Sidelines Fiji’s Tuwai as Rugby Premier League Heats Up in India

Fiji rugby sevens star Jerry Tuwai has been sidelined from competing in the Rugby Premier League in India due to a knee injury. His absence was notably felt during the Mumbai Dreamers’ recent match against the Hyderabad Heroes, where they suffered a 12-19 defeat. Despite this setback, Tuwai’s teammate, Waisea Nacuqu, continues to represent the team in the ongoing tournament.

Tuwai expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to play in the Rugby Premier League, stating, “It is a blessing for me to be here at the Rugby Premier League in India. Unfortunately, I have to leave so soon due to my knee injury, and I apologize to the Mumbai Dreamers fans for my absence and thank them for their support.”

The tournament features top players, including Terio Tamani and Joji Nasova from the Hyderabad Heroes, both of whom have made significant contributions to their team’s performance. This inaugural league, which includes six franchise teams, aims not only to entertain fans but also to elevate the profile of rugby in India.

The presence of elite Fijian players showcases the growing interest in rugby in the region, providing a unique platform for local talent to compete alongside some of the best athletes in the sport. As the tournament progresses, there’s optimism that teams like the Mumbai Dreamers can bounce back and make improvements in their performance.

Overall, while Tuwai’s injury is a disappointment, the league continues to offer exciting opportunities for growth and engagement in rugby within India, paving the way for future talent development and potential Olympic aspirations by 2032.
