In an exciting announcement for rugby fans and grassroots teams alike, any men’s team that triumphs in this year’s Fiji Bitter Marist 7s for the first time will receive a substantial bonus of $5,000, in addition to the usual prize pool of $12,000. This new initiative is being implemented by the tournament organizers to encourage participation and competition among teams.
Lawrence Tikaram, president of the Marist Club, confirmed the details during the official launch of the tournament in Suva. He stated that the bonus is exclusively for those teams that claim victory at the Marist 7s for the first occasion. This year’s event also introduces several additional incentives across all categories to further enhance the competitive spirit.
Among the new incentives, teams will receive $50 for each pool match they win, encouraging not only participation but also striving for excellence in every game. Tikaram expressed his belief that these incentives will elevate the level of competition and motivate teams to deliver their best performances.
In recognition of the tournament’s milestone 50th anniversary, organizers will plant 50 trees, with each captain involved in the initiative by contributing to the planting effort. This environmentally friendly endeavor is a thoughtful way to celebrate the tournament’s legacy.
The Fiji Bitter Marist 7s is scheduled to take place from March 26 to March 28, promising to be a thrilling event for rugby enthusiasts and participants alike.
