Samuela Yalimaiwai, coming off a stellar performance at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games in Palau, is among four talented swimmers set to represent Fiji at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore later this month. The 22-year-old swimmer will be joined by David Tolu Young, Marseleima Moss, and Anahira McCutcheon as they embark on their journey to compete on the world stage.
Head coach Sharon Smith expressed confidence in her team’s preparation, stating, “All four swimmers will race in two events each. Our preparations have gone really well, and the team is ready to give it everything in Singapore.”
The recent success at the Pacific Mini Games has undoubtedly given the swimmers a morale boost, with Yalimaiwai making headlines for clinching Fiji’s first gold medal in the men’s 50-meter breaststroke while also breaking the national record. Across the event, he secured two golds and a silver medal in the men’s 4×100-meter medley relay.
David Tolu Young also showcased his prowess by winning gold in the 50-meter freestyle and contributing to the 4×50-meter mixed freestyle relay. He collected an impressive six silver medals in various events, highlighting both his versatility and strength in the pool.
Marseleima Moss made significant contributions as well, obtaining three silver medals in the women’s 800-meter and 1500-meter freestyle, alongside the women’s 4×100-meter medley relay. This impressive collection of medals reflects the dedication and hard work these swimmers have put into their training.
The team will depart for Singapore on July 24, with the World Aquatics Championships scheduled to take place from July 27 to August 3. This opportunity not only showcases the swimmers’ talents but also serves to enhance Fiji’s presence in the international swimming community.
