Medical students from the Umanand Prasad School of Medicine and Health Sciences (UPSMHS) in Nadi may soon gain access to training facilities at the 130-bed Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) Hospitals. During a recent corporate social and “know your hospital” event, PSH Hospitals’ acting dean, Dr. Abhijit Gogoi, expressed his admiration for the state-of-the-art facilities available at the hospital.
Dr. Gogoi emphasized the significance of having such advanced medical services in Fiji, stating, “I am so impressed with what I have seen. This is the first private hospital with so many modern facilities under one roof.” He mentioned that discussions are underway with PSH Hospitals’ management to establish an agreement allowing UPSMHS students to utilize the hospital’s resources for their training.
Additionally, Dr. Gogoi highlighted the need for fewer Fijians to seek treatment abroad for heart complications and other complex medical issues, as these services are now available locally at PSH Hospitals. He is keen on developing internship and training modules that can maximize the learning experience for UPSMHS students within the hospital’s cutting-edge environment.
Parvish Kumar, founder and CEO of PSH Hospitals, expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with UPSMHS, stating, “We are ready to support the medical school and students for the betterment of health services in Fiji and the greater Pacific community.” This partnership could lead to significant improvements in medical education and healthcare in the region, ultimately benefiting both future medical professionals and patients.
In summary, this initiative aims to strengthen medical training in Fiji, potentially reducing the need for international medical travel and enhancing local health services. It showcases a promising collaboration that could elevate healthcare standards in the Pacific region.
