Court documents have revealed that the Fiji Immigration Department deported a Nigerian national, Alfred Ogomegbunem Mozia, on February 25, following his arrival at Nadi International Airport on February 19, 2025. Mozia had traveled to Fiji for his wedding planned for that weekend but was detained by immigration officials after providing incorrect information on his arrival documents.
The assessment concluded that Mozia did not qualify as a genuine visitor to Fiji, leading to his repatriation on the next available flight. Legal representation for Mozia sought an injunction to prevent his deportation, but the court determined that the matter became moot when he was already placed on the flight.
Justice Vishwa Datt Sharma noted in his ruling that the absence of Mozia in Fiji jurisdiction left the court without material to proceed with the case, effectively closing the matter.
This incident echoes similar recent deportations in Fiji aimed at maintaining the integrity of immigration policies. For instance, Fiji has recently seen swift actions against individuals who violate the terms of their stays, such as other foreign nationals connected to the adult film industry.
These measures reflect Fiji’s commitment to upholding its legal standards and protecting national interests, while also emphasizing the importance of adherence to local laws for travelers. The proactive stance taken by the Fijian authorities serves as a reminder to all visitors about the significance of honest representation upon entering the country.
