The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has successfully concluded its preliminary inquiries into five allegations outlined in the Commission of Inquiry report. Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu announced that these files have been submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for legal guidance. Currently, one file has been returned to the CID for further action, while three cases remain under investigation, and one case has been formally filed based on the ODPP’s recommendations.

The Commission of Inquiry was specifically established to scrutinize the appointment process of former FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali, ultimately determining that her appointment was unlawful. This ongoing investigation reflects a crucial effort to uphold ethical standards and promote transparency in public service appointments, which has become a significant concern among the Fijian community.

The proactive measures taken by the police signal a commitment to not only address the specific allegations but also enhance the integrity of governance in Fiji. This willingness to engage in thorough investigations is aimed at restoring public confidence and ensuring accountability from public institutions.

Past articles have highlighted the importance of these inquiries, noting that the CID’s focus on evidence collection and interviewing key individuals represents a crucial step towards effective governance practices. The hope expressed within the community is that these investigations will lead to meaningful reforms and a stronger trust in the government.

Overall, these developments suggest a determination within the Fijian government to address public concerns and improve the standards of integrity within its institutions.
