Fijian Rugby Star Shines in Super W Debut

Fijian Drua Women Make Waves in Super W Debut

Alfreda Fisher made an impressive debut for the Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women during their inaugural Super W match against the NSW Waratahs, who are the defending champions. Having missed a preseason matchup against the Brumbies, Fisher was both surprised and thrilled to be given the chance to compete in such a pivotal game.

“I didn’t expect to be named in that match because I did not play in our preseason match against the Brumbies. It was exciting. It gives us that competitive spirit to do our best against the best. I learned so much from the game,” Fisher expressed, emphasizing the joy of playing alongside her teammates.

Fisher’s debut was underscored by the Drua’s impressive victory, as they dominated the first half to secure a hard-earned win. The 20-year-old is now focused on improving her skills to strengthen her position within the team.

Looking ahead, excitement builds for their first home match at Churchill Park in Lautoka this Saturday, where the Drua Women will take on the Reds in Round 2 of the 2025 Super W season. Additionally, the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua is set to face the Chiefs in Round 4 of the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Season, promising an exhilarating double-header event.

This season holds great promise for the Drua Women, with a mix of experienced players and fresh talent, including six newcomers who made their debut against the Waratahs. Head coach Ifereimi Rawaqa has highlighted the importance of blending this new talent while preserving the team’s commitment to excellence and resilience, traits they have exhibited in previous seasons.

With the momentum gained from their opening match, optimism is high for the Drua Women as they begin their Super W campaign. Their ambition is not only to excel on the field but also to inspire future generations of female athletes and contribute to the growth of women’s rugby in Fiji and beyond. Fans can look forward to thrilling displays of skill and determination from both seasoned players and newcomers as the season progresses.
