Weather Update
Brought to you by the National Forecasting Fun Center (and no, that’s not a real place!) on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 10:45 AM.
Good news! The heavy rain alert for our friends in the Lau and Lomaiviti group, Kadavu, and the cute little islands nearby has been called off. If you were running away from raindrops like they were giant boulders, you can breathe easy now!
Now, let’s talk about what’s brewing over Fiji. We’ve got a little low-pressure trough hanging out over the eastern parts of Fiji like a guest who overstayed their welcome. It’s bringing along some cloudy company and a sprinkle of showers, so expect the eastern areas to be wearing their raincoats for the next few days.
As we look at the forecast for the Fiji group until midnight tomorrow, expect some drama with occasional showers and perhaps a little thunderclap action over Lau and Lomaiviti. The showers will start to wind down tomorrow, but not before making a grand exit with some heavy drizzle.
In the eastern half of Viti Levu (that’s Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, and Ra), it’s going to be cloudy with some showers, perfect weather for contemplating life choices—like why you didn’t take the umbrella with you. Other areas might enjoy some sunshine, but be warned: afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms are lurking like teenage friends ready to crash your party over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Keep an eye on those low-lying areas, as localised heavy rainfall could transform them into spontaneous swimming pools!
Winds will be moderate to fresh, so your hat might want to take a vacation today. And if you were hoping for a smooth ride on the seas, well, they might have other plans with moderate to rough conditions.
Looking ahead to Sunday, the clouds are not retreating just yet. Notable showers are expected to overshadow many locations, with storms likely to make an appearance in the afternoon or evening.
For our friends in Navua, Suva, and Nausori, expect a sky that’s feeling a bit moody with those showers. In Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba, it’s mostly fine, only to get a wake-up call in the form of afternoon showers.
Down at Sigatoka and the Coral Coast, it’s still sunny-ish, but keep an eye out for those unexpected afternoon shower parties—everyone’s invited! Over in Tavua and Rakiraki, similar vibes with a sprinkle of chaos later in the day.
The beautiful Yasawa and Mamanuca group will also get to enjoy their daytime sunshine but keep your rain jackets handy; they’ll join the shower club by evening.
In Labasa and Savusavu, fine conditions can be expected during the day, but thunderstorms likely want to make sure you’re still awake in the evenings.
Lastly, Lau and Lomaiviti can expect some occasional showers and storms easing up by tomorrow. Kadavu might bask in the sun, with a dash of unexpected showers—just to keep things interesting!
And don’t forget Rotuma, where a weak trough of low pressure might be playing hide-and-seek with some cloudy periods and showers.
So grab your umbrellas, hail storms, and let’s hope you have your sunscreen handy too—it’s the unpredictable weather dance of Fiji!
