Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has initiated an independent investigation into allegations regarding Youth and Sports Minister Jese Saukuru’s planned travel to New Zealand in January 2025, which is reportedly sponsored by the Fiji Sports Council. In a media statement released this evening, Prime Minister Rabuka shared that he met with Minister Saukuru to communicate his decision to initiate the inquiry.
The investigation will not only focus on Saukuru’s travel arrangements but will also look into separate allegations involving the misuse of funds against Ratu Gilbert Vakalalabure, the chief executive of the Fiji Sports Council. In response to these developments, Mr. Rabuka expressed confidence that Minister Saukuru would not meddle with the investigation process in any capacity.
This decisive action underscores the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, ensuring that any concerns regarding financial management within the sports sector are thoroughly addressed.
