Kemueli Naiqama has officially been commissioned as Fiji’s Ambassador to Japan. The commissioning ceremony took place yesterday, during which Naiqama took the Oath for Due Execution of Office and the Oath of Allegiance before President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, adhering to the constitutional requirements.
Attending the ceremony were Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs Ro Filipe Tuisawau, Acting Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Dr. Lesi Korovavala, and Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources Paula Cirikiyasawa, alongside officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Naiqama’s family.
Prior to this prestigious appointment, Naiqama was the Government Statistician and led the Fiji Bureau of Statistics. His experience also includes roles such as Senior Policy Adviser in the Office of the Prime Minister and Senior Planning Officer in the Ministry of National Planning. In 2022, he contributed to population and development planning in Fiji and the Solomon Islands as a Demographic Dividend Coordination Specialist for the United Nations Population Fund.
Naiqama’s extensive career includes serving as Deputy Government Statistician and acting as an Adviser to the Asian Development Bank Executive Board based in Manila. His academic credentials include qualifications in economics, technology, international relations, and business administration from the University of the South Pacific and the University of Fiji, underscoring his well-rounded expertise for this international role.
With Naiqama’s diverse background and experience in governmental and developmental sectors, his new role as Ambassador to Japan is anticipated to strengthen the ties between Fiji and Japan, fostering deeper collaboration on various fronts including economic development and bilateral relations.
