Women play a vital role in Fiji’s economy, yet many still encounter significant barriers to recognition, access, and participation in business. Business leaders emphasize that increasing investments in women is crucial for the sustainability of families, the competitiveness of businesses, and the resilience of communities throughout the nation.
Eldon Eastgate, President of the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation, highlighted the broader benefits of empowering women, stating, “When we invest in women, everyone benefits; families grow stronger, businesses become more competitive, communities become more resilient, and our nation moves forward.” He underscored that women are leading transformative changes across households, villages, boardrooms, and classrooms—a testament to their integral role in the economy.
To tackle the challenges faced by women in business, the upcoming Women in Business (WIN) Convention 2026 is set to take place in March. This two-day event will convene women entrepreneurs, business leaders, policymakers, and strategic partners from across Fiji. Swartika Nair, Chairperson of WIN 2026, expressed her enthusiasm about the event’s objectives, focusing on enhancing visibility and recognition for women in business. “We want more and more women to be recognized, and give them a platform. We have two days of power-packed action, so I’m urging everyone to register for the WIN Convention 2026,” she stated.
Jyoti Maharaj, Chairperson of the Women Entrepreneurs Business Council, noted the evolution of the WIN platform over the past five years into a respected national forum dedicated to impactful change. “WIN has grown to bring together women entrepreneurs, business leaders, policymakers, and strategic partners with a shared purpose, to move beyond dialogue and deliver tangible outcomes that create lasting economic and social impact,” Maharaj explained.
The fifth WIN Convention will build upon the successes of previous years and is supported by the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation, along with various sponsors and partners. Scheduled for March 27-28 at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva, this convention not only aims to empower women but also to spark conversations about actionable solutions for enhancing their roles in Fijian business. The initiative showcases a promising commitment to fostering an inclusive economic environment, paving the way for a stronger future for all.
