The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has acknowledged the release of Transparency International’s 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), which shows that Fiji has maintained a score of 55, consistent with past years. In an official statement, the Commission emphasized that the CPI is derived from a variety of independent sources and reflects public perceptions regarding the risk of corruption within the public sector.

FICAC clarified that the CPI does not determine actual instances of corruption nor does it assess the effectiveness of specific investigations or enforcement actions. However, the Commission considers the CPI an important indicator that highlights the necessity of robust integrity systems and effective preventive measures, as well as the public’s confidence in accountability mechanisms.

The Commission has indicated that it is actively taking steps to enhance corruption prevention strategies during the current quarter. These initiatives include direct engagement with public sector agencies focusing on critical risk areas such as conflicts of interest, procurement integrity, and decision-making safeguards.

Furthermore, FICAC has stepped up its public awareness and outreach campaigns aimed at improving understanding of corruption risks and the importance of institutional accountability in preserving public resources. These outreach efforts are part of FICAC’s statutory obligation to prevent, deter, and address corruption through a comprehensive approach that combines enforcement, education, and system strengthening.

In addition to its proactive measures, the Commission has encouraged the public to contribute to safeguarding integrity by reporting any suspicions of corruption or misconduct through official reporting channels. By fostering a culture of accountability and transparency, FICAC is working towards a stronger, corruption-free environment in Fiji.
