A heavy rain warning has been issued for the entire Fiji Group as authorities call for heightened vigilance amid ongoing unsettled weather conditions. The Fiji Meteorological Service has also announced a flash flood warning specifically affecting the entirety of Viti Levu.
Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas near the Nakauvadra River (Rakiraki Town), the Yaqara River at Naseyani, the Tavua River, and the Ba River flood plains are advised to remain alert due to a flood warning in effect. Additionally, a flood alert is in place for areas in close proximity to the Nadi, Nawaka, and Tuva rivers in Nadroga.
Concerns are heightened as a strong wind warning is applicable to land areas within the Western Division, the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Kadavu and adjoining smaller islands, alongside the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Macuata, Bua, Taveuni, and nearby smaller islands. Weather officials indicate that an active trough of low pressure continues to impact the country, leading to associated rainbands and strong northwesterly winds.
For the Western Division, including the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Kadavu, and adjacent islands, forecasts predict strong northwesterly winds averaging 45 km/h with gusts potentially reaching up to 75 km/h, which are expected to ease to moderate levels later in the day.
Members of the community are encouraged to adhere to official weather warnings and safety advisories, steer clear of flooded areas and river crossings, and take necessary precautions as the weather continues to evolve. This guidance aims to ensure the safety and well-being of those impacted by the ongoing adverse weather conditions.
