Fiji Braces for Extended Showers as Low-Pressure Trough Lingers

A trough of low pressure continues to influence weather patterns across the western and eastern regions of the Fiji group, resulting in widespread cloudy conditions and showers throughout much of the country. Weather officials have indicated that this trough is projected to gradually move westward away from Fiji later today.

The forecast leading up to midnight tonight suggests persistent cloudy periods accompanied by showers over several regions, including western and eastern Viti Levu, specifically Nadi–Lautoka–Ba, Sigatoka, the Coral Coast, as well as Serua–Namosi, Navua–Suva–Nausori, Tailevu–Naitasiri–Ra–Rakiraki, Cakaudrove, and southern Bua. Similar weather conditions are anticipated for the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, as well as Kadavu and several nearby smaller islands.

Authorities have issued warnings regarding the potential for localized heavy rainfall, which may lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. The weather will also see moderate northeasterly winds, which may pick up at times, along with moderate to rough seas. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions due to the ongoing weather conditions.
