Fiji has taken a significant stand by voting in favor of a United Nations General Assembly resolution that calls for an immediate and unconditional end to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. This decision was made during the eleventh emergency special session of the UN General Assembly held in New York on Tuesday.
A total of 107 nations, including Fiji, supported the resolution, which underscores the collective desire for peace. In contrast, 12 countries opposed the measure while 51 chose to abstain, highlighting the divergent views within the international community regarding the conflict.
The resolution emphasizes the need for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in alignment with international law and the principles outlined in the UN Charter. It urges an immediate cessation of hostilities between Russia and Ukraine, reflecting a strong consensus on the importance of diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis.
