Adapting to life away from home and the restrictive conditions in Papua New Guinea has presented significant challenges for Extra Bula FC during Round Two, according to player Filipe Baravilala. The team recently returned from their international stint, where they faced not only tough competition on the field but also the hardships of long hotel stays and limited mobility.

Baravilala noted that the experience was a mental test for the squad, especially given their distance from family and familiar environments. He expressed, “Being away from home has been a factor for us, especially being out of our country. We really tried our best to adapt to it.”

To cope with these challenges, the players engaged in team bonding activities, which helped maintain their mental sharpness. “We try to enjoy ourselves, play cards and just hype each other up in the hotel. We knew it was going to be hard because we were away from our families, but we are there for business. At the end of the day, we have to give our best on the field and maintain professionalism in camp,” Baravilala explained.

Despite the off-field difficulties, he viewed Round Two as an exciting and invaluable learning experience. Baravilala believes that the team is gradually improving, particularly in executing the game plans established by the coaching staff.

With six rounds still to play in their campaign, Extra Bula FC is determined to build on the lessons learned during their time in Papua New Guinea. They are set to face Vanuatu United in their next match on the 22nd of this month, which will be broadcast live on FBC 2. This upcoming game presents an opportunity for the team to showcase their growth and resilience under challenging circumstances, instilling hope for a successful remainder of the season.
