Student leaders in Fiji’s Western Division have been called upon to utilize digital platforms thoughtfully and to foster ethical leadership in a tech-driven world. This call to action was made by Ms. Kolora Naliva, the Manager of Corruption Prevention at the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), during the conclusion of the 2025 Young Leaders Seminar held at Xavier College in Ba.
The two-day seminar brought together Head Boys and Head Girls from various secondary schools to engage in leadership development and ethics training. Ms. Naliva emphasized the dual nature of today’s digital landscape, where information is readily available alongside the potential for misinformation and unethical behavior. She urged the student leaders to stand for truth, confront corruption, and exemplify integrity in all their dealings, both online and offline.
“Your voices matter, and your actions will define the future of ethical leadership. What we have discussed here must now be transformed into action in your schools and communities,” she stated, highlighting the impact these young leaders can have on their peers and community at large.
This seminar reflects ongoing efforts by FICAC to enhance integrity and accountability among the youth. In similar initiatives, such as an anti-bribery workshop attended by various organizations in Fiji, the focus has been on reinforcing personal ethics and combating corruption at all levels. These efforts are vital in nurturing a society where ethical considerations guide decisions, diminished corruption becomes the norm, and accountability is upheld.
Moreover, there is a shared commitment to empower young people with tools that can help them resist negative influences, promoting the idea that ethical leadership starts from the ground up. As FICAC continues its mission, the messages from these seminars signal a hopeful trajectory toward a future defined by strong ethical standards and community involvement, fostering a generation of leaders committed to positive change.
The presentation of certificates to seminar participants by Mr. Uwate Biutanaseva, FICAC’s Manager for the West and North, marked a formal recognition of their commitment to leading with integrity. The collaborative spirit amongst students, educators, and community leaders in these initiatives signifies a promising future for Fiji.
