The Ministry of Health is currently assessing the recent infrastructure incident that impacted several service areas at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital. In an official statement, the Ministry confirmed that affected areas will reopen once a comprehensive engineering and contractor plan has been received.

Despite the challenges posed by the incident, scheduled surgeries are proceeding as planned in all four operating theaters, and an additional operating room has been activated in the Maternity Unit to accommodate ongoing needs. The CWMH teams are also successfully managing various cases by utilizing operating rooms at private hospitals located in Suva.

Although the recovery area was principally affected, the Ministry has assured that a designated room is now in use for post-operative care. Additionally, the Special Outpatient and Diagnostic Services continue to operate as usual, with outpatient blood collection temporarily moved to the main laboratory to ensure uninterrupted service.

Patients requiring Echo Services will face some delays, as the equipment is currently undergoing a technical assessment, resulting in necessary rebooking of appointments. The Ministry has emphasized its commitment to identifying and implementing effective long-term solutions aimed at bolstering the hospital’s resilience and averting similar incidents in the future.

This proactive approach not only addresses the immediate concerns at the hospital but also contributes to the overall improvement of healthcare services, providing reassurance to patients and their families.
