The Commission of Inquiry (COI) is still awaiting a response from the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) regarding a previous letter, as confirmed by COI senior counsel Janet Mason in a media statement. When asked for an update, Mason stated, “We have yet to receive it.”
In a related development, the JSC issued a statement indicating that they convened recently to address concerns involving FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali and Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Christopher Pryde. The COI continues to advocate for the suspension of Ms. Malimali.
Mason emphasized the importance of recalling Kuliniasi Saumi, FICAC’s manager of investigations, to expedite the proceedings. “Yes, we still, because we do want to recall Kuliniasi Saumi, so we’re keen to get this sorted out,” she noted, suggesting that even if delays occur, they can revisit the matter while preparing the final report.
In other developments, former FICAC Commissioner Francis Pulewai concluded her testimony today, while Ms. Malimali is scheduled to provide hers tomorrow.
This ongoing inquiry reflects the attention being brought to the integrity of judicial processes within the region, indicating a commitment to clarity and accountability in governance.
