As the final legs of the HSBC Sevens World Series unfold, Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau is acutely aware of the challenges ahead. Following a strong performance at the Perth 7s earlier this month, where Fiji secured a silver medal and currently leads the series standings with 70 points, the pressure mounts as the competition intensifies.

South Africa, who claimed victory in Perth, trails closely behind with 62 points, underscoring the competitiveness of the series. Kolinisau acknowledges the difficulty of maintaining the top position, emphasizing the efforts required to uphold such status. “It’s not easy being number one. There’s a lot of things you’ve got to do,” he stated.

Despite their recent successes, including a win in Singapore and a runner-up finish in Perth, Kolinisau highlighted the need to address several mistakes made during these matches. “We still made a lot of mistakes,” he noted, indicating the team’s commitment to improvement before the final legs of the tournament.

To maintain their leading position, Kolinisau stresses the importance of analyzing errors and focusing on one game at a time. “We cannot overlook any team or assume it’s going to be easy,” he remarked, reinforcing the team’s strategy of treating every match as a critical part of their overall plan.

The next event, the Vancouver 7s, is set for March 7-8, and the excitement is palpable as fans and players alike look forward to what promises to be thrilling contests as the series nears its conclusion. The dedication and resilience shown by the Fiji men’s 7s team offer hope as they strive to continue their journey at the forefront of international rugby sevens.
