Authorities are keeping a close watch on the weather conditions before making a decision regarding the reopening of schools tomorrow. Divisional Commissioner for West and North, Apolosi Lewaqai, stated that ongoing assessments and weather reports are being closely monitored by their teams on the ground.

“We expect to have an update by 5 PM today regarding the status of schools and whether any will remain closed,” Lewaqai added. Once the necessary information is gathered, a message will be promptly sent to the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) and the Ministry of Education.

In light of the current weather situation, officials are urging the public to stay tuned to the latest weather updates and to avoid entering flooded areas or undertaking non-essential travel. Lewaqai emphasized the importance of staying indoors and being aware of rising water levels, especially for those in low-lying regions, advising residents to seek higher ground if conditions worsen.

As of 3:30 PM, it was reported that no evacuation centers have been activated in the Western and Northern Divisions, indicating that while the weather remains unpredictable, significant disruption has yet to occur. This proactive approach by the authorities highlights the commitment to ensure public safety during challenging weather conditions.
