The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has announced the start of significant renovations at Vunisea Hospital in Kadavu, which commenced on June 17, 2025, with financial backing from the Australian Government. This upgrade aims to improve healthcare infrastructure benefiting the 75 villages spanning nine districts on Kadavu Island.

To ensure continuous access to medical services during the renovation, the Ministry has temporarily relocated certain services to various facilities around the Vunisea Government Station. The arrangements include:

– The Hospital Conference Room operating as a temporary admission ward.
– Pharmacy services moved to the Sub-Divisional Medical Officer’s Office.
– General Outpatient Department (GOPD) services continuing from the hospital’s Old Wing.
– Environmental Health and Physiotherapy services provided from the Ministry of Forestry Office.
– Food and Nutrition (Dietician) services relocated to the Ministry of Agriculture Office.

The Ministry anticipates that the renovation work will take approximately six months, encouraging the community to remain patient and supportive during this transition. This effort supports ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare infrastructure across the region and reflects a commitment to improving health services for the local population.

Previous announcements highlighted similar efforts at other healthcare facilities such as Kamikamica Health Centre and Navua Hospital, which have also undergone renovations to address deteriorating conditions and improve overall service delivery. These investments strengthen the resilience of healthcare in Fiji, bringing hope for a healthier future in the region, underpinned by international cooperation and funding.
