Village Boys Gear Up for Coral Coast 7s Showdown

The Village Boys youth team is gearing up to debut at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s next week. This Suva-based squad, comprising young players from Naitasiri, Tailevu, Vanua Levu, and Namosi, is eager to establish themselves in the world of rugby sevens.

Participating in Pool D, the team will face off against formidable opponents, including Japan Under-18, Star Hospitality, and Navala Rugby Youth team. Head coach Epeli Matata expressed his anticipation for a demanding three-day tournament, recognizing the challenge posed by both local and international teams.

“This is a tough pool with overseas teams joining the tournament,” Matata noted. “As it will be our first Coral Coast sevens, we aim to make a lasting impression.”

The Village Boys recently recorded victories at the Levuka, Nacula, and Malake 7s as part of the Fiji Bitter Sevens series, showcasing their competitive spirit and skill.

Looking at the pools, young teams will compete as follows:

– Pool YA includes Dominion Brothers, Tuva Youth, Pacific Nomads, and Nauru Rugby.
– Pool YB features Bilo Bar Aflame Youth, Tubarua, McDonald’s Saunaka, and Sunnybank Dragons.
– Pool YC has U18 Japan, Village Boys, Star Hospitality, and Navala Rugby Youth.
– Pool YD consists of Southland Broncos, Sacramento Kaji, Sausauvou Taveuni, and Noi Nabua Stallions.

On the men’s side, the pools highlight robust competition with Fiji 7s, New Zealand Sevens, and other international teams vying for the title.

The Village Boys youth team’s debut reflects a bright future for young athletes in Fiji, offering them a valuable platform to showcase their talents and gain exposure on an international level. As they embark on this new journey, the community will rally in support, fostering hope and encouraging the next generation of rugby stars.
