One spectator tragically lost their life and several others sustained injuries after a fall from the upper stands during a celebratory event at the 5 July Stadium in Algiers. This incident occurred following MC Alger’s victory in the Algerian top-flight league, marking their second consecutive championship season.
MC Alger announced the death of supporter Younes Amguzzi, who unfortunately fell after a fence in the upper stand collapsed. Eyewitness accounts mentioned that a video clip shared on social media shows part of a railing breaking, leading to the fall of the spectators below.
In response to the tragic incident, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune expressed his condolences and extended wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured. Many of the injured spectators were rushed to local hospitals, while players and staff from MC Alger went to donate blood in a show of solidarity and support. The planned trophy presentation ceremony was postponed following the incident as the club and fans mourned the loss.
