Tonga has officially unveiled its new Cabinet just three weeks after Lord Fakafanua was elected as Prime Minister. The Cabinet, comprising 11 members, was appointed following the approval of King Tupou VI.

In addition to his role as Prime Minister, Fakafanua will oversee several significant portfolios, including Meteorology, Energy, Information, Disaster Management, Environment, Communications and Climate Change (MEIDECC), as well as Police, Fire and Emergency Services, and Prisons.

Dr. Viliami Uasike Latu has been named Deputy Prime Minister alongside his responsibilities as Minister for Justice and Minister for Trade and Economic Development. The oversight of the Diplomatic and Armed Services will be managed by Crown Prince Tupouto’a Ulukalala, ensuring the king retains an influential role in these critical areas.

The remaining ministers in the Cabinet include:

– Siaosi ‘Ofakivahafolau Sovaleni serving as Minister for Public Enterprises and Health,
– Lataifaingata’a Tangimana, Minister for Finance and National Planning,
– Semisi Kioa Lafu Sika, Minister for Tourism and Infrastructure,
– Dr. Taniela Liku’ohihifo Fusimalohi, Minister for Lands, Survey, Planning, and Natural Resources,
– Dr. Mo’ale ‘Otunuku, Minister for Education and Training,
– Sevenitini Toumo’ua, Minister for Customs and Inland Revenue,
– Viliami Sisifa, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forests, Fisheries,
– Fane Fotu Fituafe, Minister for Internal Affairs, Employment, Women, Social Protection, Youth, and Sports.

Tonga’s Parliament, known as the Fale Alea, consists of 26 members, with 17 elected by the populace and nine by the nobles. This newly formed Cabinet represents a significant development for Tonga’s governance, with the potential to enhance various sectors and public services throughout the nation.
