A $6.7 million refurbishment initiative aimed at enhancing healthcare for over 17,000 residents in Taveuni is progressing on schedule, with completion expected at the Taveuni sub-divisional hospital by April. The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has reported positive updates regarding the upgrade, which is being funded by the Australian Government.

Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr. Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu, visited the construction site in Waiyevo to check on the progress and met with contractors from Pacific Building Solutions, who are managing the project. Site manager Nilesh Singh confirmed that construction is moving forward steadily.

The refurbishment project is set to bring significant enhancements to crucial hospital facilities. Upcoming improvements will include upgrades to staff areas, X-ray rooms, and maternity wards, in addition to enhancements in patient wards and essential facilities. Notably, the hospital roof will be replaced with cyclone-rated materials to better withstand adverse weather conditions, while safety features throughout the facility will be bolstered.

Additionally, the design of the project takes community needs into account, featuring improved accessibility through better walkways and an upgraded children’s play area. The works are being carried out by a locally registered contractor, emphasizing community involvement in healthcare improvement.

Upon completion, this upgraded hospital facility is anticipated to greatly enhance the quality of healthcare delivery for the residents of Taveuni, fostering a healthier and safer community. This refurbishment not only promises to improve vital health services but also emphasizes the commitment to community welfare and infrastructure development.
