The Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa has recently made a significant contribution of $20,000 to Project Bula Mai, reinforcing its commitment to corporate social responsibility and supporting a noble cause. The event took place on December 2, with the official cheque handover occurring at the resort.

Last weekend, Project Bula Mai hosted a successful Style Fiji fashion show that showcased the creativity of nine local designers. The proceeds from this event will be pooled with the $20,000 donation and presented to the Fiji Cancer Society, the designated charity for Style Fiji.

Vincent Macquet, area general manager of Sofitel Fiji, emphasized the long-standing partnership between the resort and Style Fiji, highlighting the impactful work done by the team. He stated, “Over the years, the team at Style Fiji has done exceptional work, and it’s only natural that we partner with grassroots organizations in Fiji to push the barriers to the next level.” Macquet noted that, in addition to behind-the-scenes sponsorship for the event, the resort has actively increased its financial support aimed at aiding the Fiji Cancer Society.

Marlene Vuniwaqa, co-founder of Project Bula Mai, reflected on the generosity of Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa, which has consistently raised its sponsorship each year. “We use fashion and entertainment to accumulate funds for charity. This year about 380 people attended the show. We didn’t have a major cash sponsor, so we rely a lot on the goodness of different corporations, and Sofitel is probably the only one that will give us cash,” she said. Vuniwaqa reassured that the donation would be directed straight to the Fiji Cancer Society.

This initiative highlights the vital role that corporate involvement plays in supporting local charities. It serves as an inspiring example of how businesses can make a positive impact in their communities, fostering a spirit of collaboration to tackle pressing issues such as cancer treatment and awareness.

Overall, the partnership between Sofitel Fiji and Project Bula Mai not only showcases the commitment of businesses to social causes but also demonstrates how creative events like fashion shows can bring communities together for a good cause, fostering hope and support for those in need.
