Weather Update – Monday, April 14, 2025
Attention, folks! The skies above Yasawa, the Mamanuca Islands, Viti Levu, Kadavu, and their tiny neighbors are putting on quite the show tonight—but it’s not exactly a romantic sunset. Yes, a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is in effect, so keep your umbrellas at the ready and your sandcastles dismantled!
Currently, a moist northeasterly wind is sweeping through the islands, and we hear it’s planning a little vacation on its own. As if that weren’t enough, a rather moody trough of low pressure is expected to drop by and stay over Fiji until Friday, potentially causing a downpour worthy of a melodramatic soap opera.
Tonight, here’s what to expect: occasional showers marching through accompanied by isolated thunderstorms that might just think about pulling a heavy-duty rain act over the eastern and interior parts of Viti Levu, the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, the Northern Division, and the small cast of Lau, Lomaiviti, and Kadavu. You might even want to avoid any low-lying areas where flash flooding could turn them into mini swimming pools—though we’re not sure how much fun that would be!
As for local winds, they’ll be moderate to fresh, which basically means they’ll help keep things lively while you’re dodging raindrops. And in case you’re venturing out, prepare for moderate to rough seas, just in case you wanted a little extra thrill on your way back from the store.
Looking ahead to Wednesday: more of the same shenanigans are expected! Heavy rain and a few thunderstorms might try to steal the spotlight—because nothing says “hello sunshine” like an afternoon of severe weather. Trust us, your wet shoes will thank you.
Now, let’s break it down by location for our beloved inhabitants of Fiji:
For Navua, Suva, and Nausori: Showers will stop by for a visit, accompanied by thunderstorms and impressive downpours. Get your rain gear out!
In Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Similar weather will show up, with some isolated thunderstorm drama over the Coral Coast.
Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba will experience cloudy periods with showers that insist on sticking around.
For Tavua and Rakiraki: Nothing like a good surprise shower and looming thunderstorms to spice things up!
For Natadradave and Korovou: Count on occasional showers and the excitement of isolated thunderstorms tonight.
Yasawa and Mamanuca group, you guessed it, expect those drama-filled showers and thunderstorms!
Labasa and Savusavu are also on that occasional shower train, with a special emphasis on isolated thunderstorms.
Lau/Lomaiviti, it’s more stormy antics for you—to sum it all up: heavy showers and occasional thunderclaps.
And lastly, for those in Kadavu and residing on Rotuma, keep those raincoats handy. A trough of low pressure will join your party as well, promising a few heavy showers and thunderstorms.
So, strap in, keep your wellies close, and remember—when life gives you rain, make a splash (or just stay indoors)!
