Rugby player Isoa Tuwai is making a significant stride in his career as he prepares to debut in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific with the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua. The 23-year-old backrower, who first made waves as a development player for the Fijian Drua last year, has garnered attention for his impressive physicality and powerful playing style.
Tuwai received an encouraging message from club officials earlier this week, emphasizing the transformative journey he is about to undertake. On Tuesday, head coach Glen Jackson announced that Tuwai has been included in the Match 23 squad for the Drua’s opening Super Rugby match against the ACT Brumbies, set to take place on Saturday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
In a recent interview, Tuwai shared his dedication to rugby, explaining that he paused his Bachelor of Commerce studies at the University of the South Pacific to pursue his athletic ambitions. He expressed a deep reliance on faith, stating, “If God is not in your story, then it will be hard. If God is in your story, then keep on believing every day, keep working hard and be obedient.”
His journey through various teams, including the Lautoka Under-19, Nadi Development, Fiji Under-20, and the Fijian Warriors, has prepared him for this moment, demonstrating his resilience and commitment to the sport.
Meanwhile, the Brumbies have made some adjustments to their line-up, with former Fiji U20 backrow Judah Saumaisue placed on reserve, filling in for the injured Rob Valetini.
This upcoming match represents not only a milestone for Tuwai but also a hopeful opportunity for both teams as they aim to kick off the season with strong performances.
Tuwai’s story is a testament to perseverance and faith, exemplifying how pursuing one’s passion can lead to incredible opportunities in the world of sports.
