Roy Krishna, the 37-year-old Fijian striker for Odisha FC, has been sidelined for the remainder of the 2024-25 season due to a serious Grade 3 ACL injury. This unfortunate incident occurred during the recent match against Hyderabad FC, just one day before Odisha’s crucial showdown with Mumbai City FC at the Kalinga Stadium.
Krishna has been a key player for Odisha since joining the club last season, contributing significantly to the team’s offensive efforts. In his nine appearances this season, he netted three goals and started in 60 percent of matches, making his absence particularly impactful as the team prepares to face tough competition.
Odisha FC head coach Sergio Lobera spoke about the loss of such an influential player, emphasizing Krishna’s professionalism and dedication. He acknowledged the challenge of replacing a player of Krishna’s caliber but expressed confidence in his team’s ability to move forward. “Setbacks like these are hard to accept, but we must keep moving forward as a team. Our goals remain unchanged, and we will continue to work hard,” Lobera stated.
While Krishna’s injury poses a significant challenge, the team still boasts a roster filled with talent. Coaches will likely lean on seasoned forwards like Diego Mauricio and Jerry Mawhmingthanga to step up in Krishna’s absence and maintain the team’s attacking prowess.
Despite the disappointment surrounding Krishna’s injury, Odisha FC is determined to demonstrate resilience and strength in their upcoming matches. Currently positioned third in the league, the team aims for a strong finish in the Indian Super League. The community stands united in support of Krishna as he begins his rehabilitation process, with hopes for his return to the pitch in the future.
As the season progresses, Odisha FC has an opportunity to showcase their depth and teamwork, proving that they can rise above adversity.
