The inter-house competition at Church Primary School of Fiji (LDS) recently attracted over 250 students who participated in various track and field events at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. This year’s event saw enthusiastic support from parents, enhancing the competitive atmosphere and encouraging the young athletes.

Vice Principal Panapasa Ratuvukivuki expressed appreciation for the impressive turnout, noting that more than 250 out of 315 students participated. He highlighted a significant increase in participation compared to the previous year, which he views as a positive development for the school.

“The growth in the number of athletes participating is fantastic to witness,” Ratuvukivuki remarked. He also emphasized the health benefits of such competitions, stating that they serve as an excellent platform for students to showcase their athletic skills while promoting fitness and well-being.

Plans are underway for 35 to 40 of the school’s athletes to compete in the upcoming zone and the 2025 Fiji Primary School Athletics Championship. Ratuvukivuki is optimistic about their potential success in these competitions, aiming for a focus on both track and field events to maximize their chances of winning medals.

Ratuvukivuki expressed gratitude to parents and the community for their support in preparing the athletes for future competitions. The 2025 Fiji Primary School Athletics Championship is set to take place in term 3, offering students another chance to shine in the sporting arena.

This enthusiasm for athletics among schools reflects the broader commitment within Fijian institutions to develop young athletes. Events like this not only promote physical activity but also foster a sense of community and school spirit, laying a strong foundation for future competitions.

As schools rally behind their young talents, there is hope for a vibrant and competitive sporting culture that can inspire and cultivate the next generation of athletes.
