Wainikiti Latuvere Leana has exemplified resilience and dedication throughout her educational journey, culminating in her graduation last Friday at the age of 26. She earned a degree in Tourism Studies and Management from the School of Business and Economics at the University of Fiji.

Hailing from Voua Village in Nadroga and with family connections to Balenabelo Village, Ms. Leana is now the manager of Coastline Fiji in Sigatoka. Prior to pursuing her degree, she spent seven years working at Jacks of Fiji after completing high school. Her decision to further her education was deeply inspired by the memory of her late sister, Savaira Basiyalo. “She was the one who motivated me. I wish she were here to witness my achievement,” Ms. Leana shared.

Managing work, studies, and family responsibilities presented significant challenges, but Ms. Leana stayed committed to her goal. She often forwent social gatherings and church services to focus on her assignments and studies. “I’d listen to sermons on the radio later. My goal was to finish my degree,” she noted.

The journey was mentally demanding, filled with sleepless nights dedicated to completing projects and preparing presentations, yet she persevered through it all. “A lot of effort went into balancing everything. It was challenging, but in the end, it was all worth it,” she remarked.

Grateful for her family’s unwavering support, Ms. Leana dedicates her success to her late sister, her parents, and her siblings. Her mother, Makereta Tupou, expressed overwhelming pride during the graduation ceremony. “I cried watching her walk across the stage to receive her certificate. It was a proud moment. We faced many challenges, but with God’s strength, we overcame them,” Ms. Tupou said.
