Immigration authorities are taking proactive steps to enhance access to regional intelligence and data, aiming to improve their ability to detect risks and respond effectively to emerging challenges. Last week, Immigration Minister Viliame Naupoto met with Viliame Bovoro, Director of the Pacific Fusion Centre, to discuss the necessary support for the ministry.

The discussions primarily centered around enhancing access to data, analysis, and regional insights that are critical for effective governance. Minister Naupoto emphasized that improved information flow would bolster the ministry’s planning, coordination, and decision-making processes. Bovoro highlighted the Pacific Fusion Centre’s role in providing timely information and strategic analytical support to government agencies, which can significantly contribute to shaping policy and enhancing responses to new issues as they arise.

The meeting also focused on reinforcing partnerships, highlighting the importance of knowledge sharing and staff capacity building. Both Naupoto and Bovoro agreed on the significance of utilizing regional intelligence products to inform evidence-based actions, which can lead to more effective governance. Naupoto pointed out that the centre’s analytical expertise and its extensive regional networks are vital for detecting potential risks at an earlier stage.

This collaboration is seen as a crucial step towards improving processes and service delivery within the ministry. Both parties expressed their commitment to stronger engagement that would facilitate better decision-making and a more agile response to the complexities of immigration challenges. Through these efforts, the region can look forward to a more coordinated and informed approach to immigration management.
