The Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) is optimistic about the future of football in the region, having received 24 expressions of interest from clubs eager to participate in the new OFC Professional League, which is set to launch in January 2026. This significant interest reflects a strong commitment to the growth and professionalism of football across the Pacific islands.
Clubs from a diverse array of nations, including New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Australia, New Caledonia, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tahiti, and Vanuatu, have shown enthusiasm for the competition. Among these applications, New Zealand leads with six clubs, while Fiji, Papua New Guinea, and Australia have each submitted four applications. Additionally, there are two applications from New Caledonia and one from each of Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Tahiti, and Vanuatu.
As the finalization of club applications progresses, the deadline for submissions extends until the end of June 2025, allowing ample time for interested clubs to finalize their intent to compete in what is expected to be an eight-team league.
Stuart Larman, the OFC Professional League Manager, expressed enthusiasm over the overwhelming response, marking it as a milestone in establishing a structured professional league. He emphasized the considerable effort invested in creating a framework that could enhance the growth of football within the region. “This response indicates that many clubs share our vision and passion to develop professional football across Oceania,” he stated.
