Beyond the headline

Outsource Fiji has named chartered accountant Chandan Ohri as its new president, a move the industry body says will steer Fiji’s expanding outsourcing sector into a “next phase of growth.” Ohri, who was introduced at a press conference in Suva yesterday, brings more than 30 years of global experience across public and private sectors to the role and has been a member of Outsource Fiji’s executive committee.

Ohri holds an MBA in International Business and has built a career spanning finance strategy, digital transformation, business process improvement and large-scale enterprise consulting. He founded Duco Consultancy and has held senior positions with IBM Australia and New Zealand. His résumé also includes work with KPMG across the Asia-Pacific, a directorship at BDO New Zealand and leadership roles in implementing ERP systems, data analytics, business continuity and change management programs across sectors such as financial services, telecommunications, healthcare, retail and manufacturing.

Beyond his commercial experience, Ohri has an extensive record in professional and governance bodies. He has served as president of CPA Australia in New Zealand and president of ISACA New Zealand, chaired ICAI New Zealand, and sits as a director of the Bank of India in New Zealand. Outsource Fiji’s executive director, Josefa Wivou, said Ohri’s blend of technical, advisory and governance experience makes him well placed to lead the industry internationally.

“With this level of experience and leadership, we are confident Mr Ohri will take Outsource Fiji into its next phase of growth — a phase where we continue to build, innovate, and strengthen Fiji’s position on the global stage,” Wivou said, stressing the body’s ambition not only to grow but to “lead, to evolve, and to create long term value for Fiji.”

Speaking at the Suva event, Ohri framed his appointment as a collective mandate to raise standards and reinforce governance in the sector. “We are no longer asking to be recognised. Fiji is already on the map. The responsibility now is to consistently deliver at a level that builds long term confidence and positions us as a destination of choice,” he said, setting out priorities that include elevating industry standards, deepening international partnerships and moving Fiji up the value chain to focus on high-value outsourcing services rather than competing on price alone.

Ohri emphasised the need for the industry to offer insight, reliability and long-term partnerships, signalling a strategic shift toward services that create sustained economic value for the country. Outsource Fiji has framed the appointment as timely, at “a defining time for the industry,” with the new president expected to drive initiatives that attract higher-quality engagements and institutional confidence in Fiji’s outsourcing capabilities.

The appointment marks the latest leadership development for Fiji’s private sector as local organisations seek to capitalise on global demand for outsourced services. With Ohri now at the helm, Outsource Fiji is positioning itself to pursue stronger governance, international collaboration and an industry strategy focused on long-term competitiveness and value creation for Fiji.
