Labasa’s North-pole football club has returned victorious and $4,000 richer after clinching the title at the 2024 Cecil’s National Club Championship (NCCC). They secured their win by defeating Buiduna with an impressive score of 6-3 at the Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) grounds.
The match proved to be a close contest in the first half, with both teams tied 2-2 at halftime. However, in the second half, Melvin Mani pushed North-pole ahead with a goal just ten minutes into the half, followed by a second goal from Christopher Wasasala in the 61st minute. Eparama Moraica and Mohammed Arbaz also contributed with goals, sealing the victory for North-pole.
While Buiduna did not win the championship, they made history by reaching their first NCCC final. Their journey to the final included a solid start with a 2-1 win over Nakasi Police, a narrow 1-0 victory against Lautoka’s Rivals, and a draw against Nadroga’s Downtown. Buiduna left the tournament with a commendable $1,000 prize for their efforts.
