Nightclubs vs. Family Influence: The Real Debate Behind Youth Behavior

Spread the love

John Jeong Choon-Sik, the president of White House Nightclub in Martintar, Nadi, recently emphasized that nightclubs should be viewed as venues for mature adults, not children. During a community meeting with Nadi Police at the Nadi Town Council Chamber, he responded to growing concerns about the perceived influence of nightclubs on young people.

Choon-Sik argued that the negative impact often attributed to nightclubs is actually rooted in the behaviors of family members, particularly parents and relatives. He pointed out that adults often engage in actions like drinking, smoking, and using inappropriate language, which children can then imitate. “The responsibility lies with parents and relatives,” he stated, urging a shift in focus towards the roles these adults play in shaping the behavior of youth.

Highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts, he called for a partnership among families, churches, and educational institutions to guide young people effectively. He cited concerning statistics from Saint Giles Hospital, which reported that over 7,000 young individuals have been under their care this year, suggesting a pressing need for a community support system to assist youth.

Choon-Sik also stressed the economic contributions of nightclubs, arguing that closing them due to the actions of a few individuals would be misguided and detrimental to the economy. He praised the continuous presence of law enforcement in the community, which was commended by Acting Deputy Police Commander West, Esira Bari, reinforcing the importance of security in fostering a safe environment.

This discussion points to the critical shared responsibility of adults in nurturing youth behavior, advocating for a balanced view of nightlife as both a significant cultural and economic component of society. By fostering understanding and cooperation among families and local institutions, there is hope for a more supportive atmosphere for young people, promoting their healthy development while recognizing the vibrant role of nightlife venues.

In summary, Choon-Sik’s perspective not only seeks to address the concerns surrounding youth in relation to nightlife but also encourages a community-focused approach to guiding and supporting young people, ultimately paving the way for a healthier and more vibrant society.
