The Marist Old Boys Association (MOBA) recently held its Annual General Meeting, during which Neumi Vakadewabuka was elected as the new President, succeeding Koli Korovulavula, who has been in the role since 2021. Vakadewabuka, a retired Lieutenant Colonel, has served as Counselor and Military Attache at Fiji’s New York Mission and is now a security and climate change advisor for the German development agency GIZ.

The meeting saw one of the largest turnouts in recent history for the association, further emphasizing the engagement of its members. In addition to Vakadewabuka, Faizal Khan, a former senior civil servant and Director and Registrar of Cooperatives, has been appointed as Secretary. Kenwyn Lord will serve as Treasurer, with Geoffrey Smith, William Otterbech, and Lepani Ravoka joining the committee as members.

Vakadewabuka originates from Burerua Village, Sawakasa in Tailevu, and he expressed his commitment to leadership that prioritizes trust, integrity, and unity among the members. His tenure will span from 2025 to 2028, during which he aims to enhance the association’s efforts and foster collaboration among its members.

This leadership change in MOBA resonates with similar recent activities in other organizations within Fiji, such as the Fiji Medical Association, which recently appointed its new president and officers. This shows a trend of renewal and commitment to service across various sectors in Fiji, contributing positively to the community’s development.

The strong turnout at the MOBA AGM signifies a community eager for active engagement and leadership that reflects its values. As new leaders take the reins, there is hope for strengthened initiatives and programs that will benefit the association and its members in the coming years.
