Mystery Surrounds Third Person in Controversial Tribunal Hearing

During the tribunal hearing of suspended Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde, Minister for Sugar, Charan Jeath Singh, took the stand and shared details regarding an interaction he had observed between Pryde and former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. Singh mentioned that, while he had provided a photograph to Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga, there was a third unidentified individual present at the official Japanese function where the conversation occurred.

When questioned by Justice Anare Tuilevuka about the identity of this third person, Singh admitted he was unaware of who they were, as the picture was taken by staff from the Japanese embassy. He observed the conversation, which lasted for slightly more than 30 minutes, from a distance of around five meters and described it as serious, noting that neither party appeared to be enjoying the event.

Additionally, Singh recounted that lawyer Hemendra Nagan had expressed concerns about the appropriateness of Pryde engaging in a conversation with Sayed-Khaiyum, particularly since Sayed-Khaiyum was under investigation at that time.

Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo is anticipated to testify next as the trial progresses.

This situation underscores the complexities surrounding the legal and political realms, particularly how associations can be viewed in light of ongoing investigations. As the trial unfolds, it may provide clarity on the implications of such conversations in governance and the judiciary.

Summary: Charan Jeath Singh testified at Christopher Pryde’s tribunal, highlighting an observed conversation with Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and mentioning a third unidentified person present. Singh’s comments raise questions about the appropriateness of such interactions during investigations. The trial continues with Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo expected to testify soon.
