LTA Cracks Down on Traffic Violations: Over 1,000 Notices Issued!

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has issued a substantial 1,187 Traffic Infringement Notices to individuals found operating vehicles unlawfully in an enforcement campaign spanning from April 19, 2022, to March 11 this year. This initiative emphasizes the authority’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that all motor vehicle operators adhere to legal license conditions, a reminder underscored by Sections 53(5) and 62 of the LTA Act.

In a recent statement, the LTA reiterated its role in promoting road safety and regulating compliance among transport operators. Acting CEO Irimaia Rokosawa has previously noted the importance of stringent enforcement, especially concerning private vehicles illegally functioning as public service vehicles (PSVs). The authority has received numerous complaints about rising illegal operations, prompting immediate actions including vehicle seizures and traffic infringement notices.

Such measures are part of a broader strategy to improve road safety across the nation, as highlighted in earlier reports regarding increased enforcement activities. In early 2025, for instance, there was a notable increase in traffic violation notices issued, reflecting heightened visibility and a reintroduction of round-the-clock enforcement shifts aimed at tackling road safety issues more effectively.

This progressive approach resonates with ongoing educational initiatives intended to instill a culture of responsibility among drivers, showing a hopeful trend where penalization is coupled with public education. These efforts demonstrate that both enforcement and community engagement are crucial to fostering safer driving environments, potentially leading to fewer traffic incidents in the future. By prioritizing safety and accountability, the LTA hopes to nurture a responsible driving culture that benefits all road users.
