Residents of Lautoka can now benefit from enhanced eye care services with the grand opening of Asgar Optometrists’ new branch on Vaqalo Street this past Saturday. The general manager, Vidya Lakhan, shared the clinic’s rich history, which dates back to its founding by Dr. Asgar Ali in Suva in 1957. The business has expanded over the years, with locations now in Ba, Lautoka, and Nadi.

The decision to relocate from the Sugar City Mall to the new site was prompted by a growing customer base, emphasizing the clinic’s need for a more spacious environment to meet increasing demand. Lakhan noted the extensive search of 18 months to find an appropriate location that could accommodate their needs effectively.

In addition to the new branch, Asgar Optometrists is planning significant investments in upgrading its equipment, with plans to spend nearly half a million dollars on modernizing their lab in Suva. This investment will enhance their ability to provide high-quality services, with new optical instruments imported from the United States expected to be operational by the end of August. Additionally, staff training from experts in Singapore will ensure that the team is equipped to utilize the new technology effectively.

This development aligns with broader efforts to improve healthcare access in Fiji, similar to recent initiatives like the free eye screenings offered by organizations such as the Island Eye Clinic and New Vision of Fiji. These programs aim to provide essential eye health services, particularly in underserved areas, fostering hope for enhanced health outcomes.

As Asgar Optometrists opens its new clinic, it represents a significant step forward in making eye care more accessible in Lautoka, which can greatly improve the quality of life for residents. This positive advancement underscores ongoing commitments within the healthcare sector to prioritize eye health, promising a brighter future for communities as access to vital services continues to expand.
