Students in Fiji seeking financial aid for tertiary education are set to benefit from a new scholarship initiative following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Fiji and Jack’s Retail Pte Ltd. This collaboration has led to the establishment of the Jack’s–UoF Scholarship, designed to cover full tuition fees for selected undergraduate students in fields such as Commerce, Information Technology, Journalism, and Media Studies.
The scholarship will be awarded every two academic years, commencing in 2026, and reflects Jack’s Retail’s commitment to corporate social responsibility focused on education and youth development. University of Fiji Vice-Chancellor Professor Shaista Shameem heralded this partnership as a significant milestone, underscoring the confidence it instills in the University’s academic offerings and its broader commitment to social responsibility.
Jack’s Retail Director Nikul Khatri emphasized that the scholarship represents an investment in the future of Fiji, aimed at aiding students who exhibit diligence, potential, and financial need. To qualify, applicants must be Fiji citizens who have either completed Year 13 with notable academic results or are current students in good academic standing. They must meet the entry requirements for their chosen programmes, demonstrate financial need, and refrain from holding other scholarships.
The University will oversee the application process, selection, and monitoring through its Office of the Registrar, ensuring annual progress reports are provided to Jack’s Retail. The Memorandum of Understanding will remain active for four years, with further application information to be made available through the University’s official channels. This initiative not only opens doors for students facing financial difficulties but also strengthens the partnership between education and corporate entities in fostering societal development.
