The Public Service Commission (PSC) has initiated a significant reshuffle of three Permanent Secretaries, set to take effect on February 3, 2025. This decision, made in consultation with the Prime Minister, aims to enhance leadership and optimize administrative effectiveness within critical government ministries.
According to PSC Chairman Luke Rokovada, Dr. Raijeli Taga, currently the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, will transition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In her stead, Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, who oversees the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will take over at the Office of the Prime Minister while also acting as the Permanent Secretary for Immigration, reporting directly to the Minister of Immigration. Additionally, Mr. Manasa Lesuma, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Housing, will expand his responsibilities to include acting as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Policing, a role he has been managing since January 14, 2025.
This restructuring reflects the government’s commitment to fostering skilled leadership in essential ministries. It highlights a proactive approach to optimizing workload distribution, thereby improving service delivery to citizens. By putting qualified professionals in key positions, the government aims to enhance accountability and responsiveness in public administration.
The reshuffle comes at a time when there are ongoing efforts to address the evolving needs of governance in Fiji. These changes signify a hopeful outlook for the future of public service, aiming to create a more dynamic and effective administrative framework that can respond to the needs of the community.
In summary, this reshuffling of Permanent Secretaries not only represents a strategic initiative to improve governance but also emphasizes the importance of local talent in public service management. It is a move that could pave the way for better administrative practices and enhance the overall effectiveness of Fiji’s public sector.
