The government has announced that all non-essential services will be temporarily suspended on December 27, December 30, and December 31, 2024, in observance of the Christmas and New Year holidays. Prime Minister and Minister for Civil Service, Sitiveni Rabuka, clarified that essential services will continue to operate, with necessary staffing arrangements in place to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
During this period, it is expected that staff resources will be significantly reduced, although scheduled and crucial services will remain available. This closure serves as an opportunity for employees to spend quality time with their families and loved ones, enhancing their work-life balance during the festive season.
Rabuka urged Permanent Secretaries to encourage employees to take advantage of their leave during this closure. Furthermore, he noted that it remains at the discretion of Permanent Secretaries to decide if a skeleton staff is necessary to maintain certain services during this time.
The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to express gratitude towards civil servants for their contributions to the nation over the past year. He wished all civil servants, along with their families, a peaceful and joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
This measure not only promotes employee well-being but also reinforces the government’s commitment to ensuring essential services are maintained, leading to a seamless transition into the new year. As we approach the holiday season, this initiative underscores the importance of community and family, fostering a sense of connection among citizens and government employees alike.
