Four out of five workers are convinced that artificial intelligence will significantly impact their daily tasks in the workplace, with Generation Z expressing the greatest concern. This finding comes from a recent survey conducted by Randstad, which highlights the growing reliance on AI chatbots and automation in various industries.
The yearly “Workmonitor” report from Randstad indicates a staggering 1,587% increase in job vacancies requiring skills related to “AI agents.” The data suggests that AI and automation are increasingly taking over low-complexity, transactional roles. The survey involved feedback from 27,000 workers and 1,225 employers, examining over 3 million job postings across 35 global markets.
The importance of this report is underscored by the pressures on labor markets worldwide. Many corporations are currently facing significant challenges, as employment prospects weaken amid job cuts and a declining consumer sentiment, influenced by geopolitical tensions and economic factors.
Despite the challenges, AI-focused technology companies are moving forward, even as the broader market awaits the tangible outcomes from substantial investments in AI technology. This transition is reshaping the business landscape for years to come, raising questions about job security and the nature of work.
Randstad CEO Sander van ‘t Noordende noted that while employees often show enthusiasm for AI, there is a level of skepticism regarding its true impacts. Employers express the desire to save costs and enhance efficiency, which may overshadow the potential benefits for the workforce.
The survey further reveals that nearly half of the workers interviewed believe AI technology will disproportionately benefit corporations over employees. Moreover, there is a visible disconnect between optimistic employer outlooks and workers’ perceptions; approximately 95% of employers anticipate growth this year, whereas only 51% of employees share this positive view.
While concerns about AI’s impact are valid, it is also worth noting that this technological shift may lead to new opportunities and job creation in areas that do not yet exist, encouraging a hopeful outlook for the future workforce.
