The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced new regulated prices for fuel products, including Unleaded Petrol (Motor Spirit), Premix, Kerosene, Diesel, and LPG, which will take effect on January 1, 2025. These prices are based on fuel and LPG imports from November 2024, following a one-month review period.
The FCCC’s assessment reveals that the prices for Motor Spirit and Premix will remain steady. This stability is attributed to favorable trends in international fuel prices and shipping costs, despite the strengthening of the US dollar. Conversely, consumers can expect an increase in the prices of Kerosene and Diesel due to rising international fuel costs and the impact of the stronger dollar.
Furthermore, LPG prices are set to rise as a result of increased Butane Contract Prices and heightened global demand.
The FCCC has committed to ensuring compliance with the new pricing by deploying its Enforcement Team to monitor both wholesale and retail markets. Consumers are urged to report any discrepancies in prices, with FCCC teams readily available in various regions for assistance.
As the implementation date approaches, the public is advised to stay informed about the updates at local fuel outlets.
This adjustment in fuel prices places emphasis on the need for continued monitoring and enforcement, ensuring that consumers are treated fairly in the face of changing market conditions. It underscores the FCCC’s role in safeguarding consumer rights while also responding to international market dynamics.
