Discipline and defence are pressing concerns for the Flying Fijians as they prepare for their opening match against Samoa in the Pacific Nations Cup at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva today.

Captain Tevita Ikanivere emphasized the importance of maintaining focus throughout the game during a statement to SUNsports. “We must be engaged for the entire match; there’s a saying that we are only good enough if we put in the effort,” he remarked.

Ikanivere encouraged rugby fans to come out in support of the revamped Flying Fijians squad. “I’m ready for the challenge, and I’m grateful to have been chosen as captain to fulfill this role,” he added.

Anticipating a tough contest with the Samoans, Ikanivere acknowledged the team’s youth but noted the presence of several leaders, which eases his responsibilities both on and off the field. “We have a young team, but many players step up, which helps me significantly.”

Following two intense training sessions, the team is focused on securing a victory in their first match of the Pacific Nations Cup. The match is scheduled to kick off at 6 PM.
