A flash flood alert has been issued for low-lying streams and areas prone to flooding in the interior and eastern regions of Viti Levu and parts of Vanua Levu. The areas of concern on Viti Levu include Korolevu, Navua, Lami, Suva, Wainimala, Waidina, Wainibuka, Nausori, Korovou, Rakiraki, and Tavua. On Vanua Levu, locations at risk include Nabouwalu, Dama, Lekutu, Batiri, and Seaqaqa to Labasa.

The Nadi weather office has indicated that rising temperatures in the afternoon may lead to the development of thunderstorms over the central areas of both main islands. These thunderstorms are expected to drift westward into the western sections of the islands during the afternoon and evening, potentially producing heavy rainfall.

Additionally, a heavy rain alert remains in effect for the interior and eastern half of Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Kadavu, Lau, and the Lomaiviti group. Residents of these regions are advised to be cautious and vigilant, as the predicted localized heavy rainfall poses a significant risk of flash flooding, particularly in lower-lying areas.

Given similar alerts in recent days due to a low-pressure trough affecting the region, residents are reminded to prepare for changing weather conditions and to stay updated with official warnings and advisories. The National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) continues to emphasize the importance of safety, urging the public to avoid areas where water levels may exceed knee height.

For those living in or traveling through the affected regions, it is crucial to stay informed and heed warnings to ensure safety during these adverse weather conditions.
