The Ministry of Youth and Sports in Fiji has announced plans to invest over $200,000 in rebuilding the boys’ dormitory at the Youth Training Centre in Naleba, Labasa, which was completely destroyed by a fire on April 13 of last year. This new dormitory will be designed with disaster resilience in mind to prevent future incidents.

Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, revealed that discussions are ongoing with the Chinese Embassy to acquire funding support for the reconstruction. The dormitory’s destruction significantly impacted 25 trainees and trainers, and restoring the facility will enable the expansion of accommodations for both boys and girls.

The revamped dormitory will be equipped with modern facilities and amenities to better serve the needs of the youth in the Northern Division. Established in 2005, the Youth Training Centre is among the key training facilities in Fiji that provide free education in various fields, including agriculture.

Sauku stated that the primary objective is to expedite the recovery process and restore normalcy for the affected individuals. This initiative not only aims to rebuild what was lost but also emphasizes the government’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure for the youth.

The commitment to rebuilding and enhancing facilities highlights a proactive approach to ensuring the welfare of young people in Fiji, fostering a hopeful outlook for their future educational endeavors.
