Weightlifting Fiji’s head coach, Henry Elder, has been instilling the value of humility in his son, Nehemiah, as the team prepares for the Pacific Mini Games in Palau at the end of June. Elder emphasized the importance of staying grounded, reminding Nehemiah that every person is equal in the eyes of God, despite his impressive year which includes significant accolades. This message has extended to the entire team of nine lifters and four officials heading to Palau.

Nehemiah Elder has recently made headlines as he became the first Fijian to win a gold medal at a World Championship event, claiming victory at the 2025 IWF World Youth Championships. His accomplishments, alongside the recognition of fellow lifter Mereia Turaganivalu, reflect the strength and dedication present within the team. As the Pacific Mini Games approach, Coach Elder has reiterated the importance of comprehensive training, including mental resilience and technical skill enhancement, which have been foundational to their success.

The Pacific Mini Games, scheduled from June 29 to July 9 in Koror, promise to be a platform where Fijian athletes can showcase their talent on an international stage. The community’s support and the athletes’ dedication foster a hopeful atmosphere as they aim not only for medals but also to elevate Fiji’s presence in sports globally, creating a positive outlook for future competitions.

The emphasis on humility and a grounded mentality, particularly from a father-to-son perspective, serves as a profound reminder not only for the athletes involved but for all aspiring competitors.
